Indian Night a great success

Our Indian Night, held in the Parish Centre on Friday 29th February, was a great success. 130 people came along and raised €4,060 for the USPG’s Delhi Brotherhood Project.

Thanks to all who helped, especially Heather, Mandy and Elaine who sold tickets and all who helped set up the Parish Centre and made the night a success.

Thanks also to Breda, Mandy and Linda, Ted and Declan and the Rector for dressing appropriately! (Roll on the next fashion show!)

Over the last couple of years we have become involved with the Missionary Society USPG (United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel). In particular, we have linked in with a project in Delhi, India, run by the Delhi Brotherhood, which was set up over a hundred years ago as an extension link from Cambridge University.

The Delhi Brotherhood Project does immensely good work. Many hundreds of young people travel to the city for work. These are as young as 5 or 6 years old. As they reach the main train station in Delhi representatives of the thriving sex industry offer them accommodation and promise them work. Many end up on drugs, on the street as child prostitutes or worse.

The Delhi Brotherhood endeavour to break that cycle by offering these children accommodation in their shelters across the city. Alongside that they educate them in practical ways. The girls are taught sewing and dressmaking. The boys are taught basic computer skills and car mechanics. These are invaluable skills in the bustling city of Delhi.

Christmas Giving Tree

Once again this year, each household is invited to give a gift and hang a bauble on the Church’s Christmas Tree.

If you are presenting a present (e.g. toys, socks, tracksuits, tee-shirts, dolls, crayons and drawing paper) hang a red bauble. All the presents are going to a project in Lesotho, where our Youth Pastor Susan worked earlier in the year.

If you would prefer to give a money gift, hang a gold bauble. All money presented will go to Present Aid.

There will be a presentation of gifts during our All-Age Worship with the Sunday Club (and band!) on 16th December.

In memory of Sam Jackson

On All Saints’ Sunday, 4th November, the day on which we give thanks and prayerfully remember those we love but see no longer, we planted a tree in memory of our dear friend Sam Jackson. The tree was planted in the Church grounds which Sam spent so many hours keeping so well.
